Interesting Facts

• A positive “family” atmosphere demonstrating Christian values.

• A dedicated, experienced and caring teaching staff.

• We have one of the best school facilities in the area. It was built in 1996 and expanded in 2007.

• Concordia was an Exemplary Lutheran School in 2010-2011  as selected by a panel of educators from across the United States.  We are one of only 5 schools selected from the 2,500 Lutheran Schools in the United States.  This award is for high test scores, positive reputation in the community, high parent satisfaction, and innovative programs.

• We have the only Distance Learning Lab for elementary and middle school students in the county.

• Our middle school students each have their own iPad that is used to access information on the internet, take notes in class,and access their textbooks and worksheets.  We also have a computer lab for instruction, laptops for students to use and iPads for the students to use in the lower grade classrooms.

• We won the Athletic League Sportsmanship Trophy four of the last six years.  This exemplifies the Christian attitude that our students exhibit in and out of school.

• Our teachers are state certified and our school is nationally accredited.

• In 2013 Kathy Unverfehrt was selected as the National Lutheran Early Childhood Teacher of the Year! 

• In 2013-14 Robby Fulton received the North Carolina American Heart/NCAAHPERD Mission Impact Award for his outstanding work in educating our students and leading them in raising money for the American Heart Association.  

• Weekly chapel services supporting mission projects locally and around the world. Our mission projects include packing 250 shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse, raising over $9,300 for the American Heart Association, collecting over 2800 pounds of food for ECCCM, as well as supporting the local Backpack Program, Safe Houses for children in India, and many other mission projects.  

• In the past 7 years we have had 7 Concordia graduates who were the Valedictorian or Salutatorian at Newton-Conover High School.  The first two Valedictorians at University Christian High School were Concordia graduates.  

• Our school meets the academic requirements to be a National Blue Ribbon School.

• Students in our eighth grade have the option of taking High School Algebra I, Spanish I and High School Physical Science.

• Our eighth graders yearly have their poems published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans.

• Musical groups that include a Beginning Band for fifth grade, an Advanced Band for Grades 6-8, several  Middle School Handbell groups,  recorder instruction in grades 3 and 4, a middle school choir, and choirs in all grades Preschool 3 – Fifth grade.

• We have an extensive sports program for Grades 5-8 including volleyball, soccer, cheerleading, basketball, track, golf, and tennis.

• Seventh and eighth grade classes alternate trips to Washington, DC and the Outer Banks.  Our sixth graders attend an Outdoor Education Camp at Camp Broadstone each fall.

• We have Christian Parenting Classes and parental support materials available.

• Our students receive computer instruction that includes everything from use of Word, Powerpoint, and Excel to web page design and instruction in other computer languages.  An example is our First graders are creating PowerPoint presentations.

• Spanish is taught in grades K-8.  Many of our graduates test out of Spanish I in high school. 

• We offer quality Summer Camp Programs for Preschool through age 12.
